The Counsel you need, without the hire you can't justify.
When I founded The Chief Counsel, it was in response to a pattern I kept noticing across different businesses.
A business owner discovering that vendor contracts offered no protection when a supplier failed to deliver.
A founder scrambling to organize a cap table mid-fundraise.
An executive team realizing that intellectual property ownership was unclear just as a partnership depended on it
Different businesses. Different industries. Same underlying issue.
They knew they needed legal support. They waited because a full-time General Counsel felt premature, and traditional law firms were expensive, reactive, and disconnected from day-to-day operations. By the time they reached out, the business was already scrambling to fix preventable issues.
After nearly a decade advising growing businesses, including as embedded General Counsel, I realized the solution was neither a traditional law firm nor a full-time hire.
It was something in between.
That insight led me to build The Chief Counsel as a fractional General Counsel practice. I work directly with business owners and leadership teams on commercial strategy, contracts, risk management, and governance, without the cost or commitment of a full-time role.
My approach is shaped by experience on the business side of the table. I understand how quickly priorities shift, how negotiations evolve, and how legal decisions carry real financial consequences.
Law should be a tool for clarity, protection, and momentum. It should not be a source of paralysis or surprise invoices.. I use transparent, fixed-fee pricing and focus on helping clients move forward with confidence.
I typically work with:
• Owner-led businesses and scaling startups preparing for significant growth, fundraising, or expansion
• Leadership teams facing high-stakes decisions who need legal guidance early
• Businesses that need legal support operating as part of the business, not outside of it
I have worked with technology companies, marketing and talent agencies, consumer brands, and professional services firms. The industries vary but the challenge is the same: they need a legal partner that understands the pace and pressure they are operating under.
